Scriptures Written On Parchment For BENEDICTION

Benediction are your straight up, no bullshit death metal. To semi-phrase guitarist Daz Brooks himself – “verse, chorus, verse, chorus, solo, in, out…song’s done!”

Formed in Birmingham in 1989 by Daz Brooks on guitar, Peter “Rewy” Rewinski also on guitar, Ian Treacy on drums and Paul Adams on bass  –  and one Barney Greenway on vocals – Benediction quickly found themselves in the upper echelons of the respected and admired extreme music community thanks to solid slabs of unrelenting early 90’s brutality the likes of Subconscious Terror [1991], The Grand Leveller [1991], and the now revered Transcend The Rubicon [1993].

Articulating Our Phanerozoic Aeon Courtesy Of The Ocean

Germany’s progressive metal band The Ocean have been around for twenty years and throughout this time, as evident on their previous seven album releases, they have found their niche in focusing on periods of humanity’s existence. With album number eight titled Phanerozoic II: Mesozoic | Cenozoic (following on from 2018’s Phanerozoic I: Palaeozoic) that trend continues. Founder of The Ocean – Robin Staps –  graciously gave HEAVY some of his time in iso to educate us on the background of albums past plus bring us up to speed on the revelations hidden within Phanerozoic II.

ENSLAVED – ‘Utgard’

With a career that has been forged over twenty five years, Norwegian progressive post-black metallers Enslaved have very little to prove to either themselves or their fans both old and new. Fifteen albums in, each new artistic journey sees the Enslaved collective breathe on old embers of inspiration and forge monstrous musical experiences from the flames born anew.

2020’s Utgard is a strange, wondrous journey that raises the eclectic, dark and heavy bar for these already inspiring and revered Norwegians in terms of how wondrously they have interwoven every single influence into the realm of the album in just 9 songs coming in at just over forty five minutes.

Napalm Death – Throes Of Joy In The Jaws Of Defeatism

Like all pioneers, legends, GODFATHERS of their breed, the mighty and magnificent Napalm Death need no introduction. True and unforgiving pioneers plus consistent leaders and redesigners of their brand. Napalm Death have never followed a familiar path but neither have they ever strayed from the world of carnage that they single handedly forged within the genre that they have alone engineered, pioneered and continually after almost forty years reinvigorated, regenerated and reforged.

Amongst all other buzzwords and desperate efforts to find anything remotely appropriate to describe Napalm Death and their new album, in plain terms they glisten with absolute purifying disdain in their overwhelmingly unapologetic and uncompromising reason to exist!

Question; How does a species prepare for the current events that has seen the world in which we all know be turned on its metaphysical head? More importantly, how will our species survive?
