CHAOS DIVINE: “Legacies”

Chaos Divine have delivered one of the best progressive metal albums of the year with Legacies.

A collection of 13 songs spanning around the one hour mark, Legacies is more than the sum of its parts in that listening to the album provides that rare experience where you can get lost solely in the music.

There is an underlying flow to the album that gives added spice to the chaotic nature that magnifies its sound.

RUFF MAJIK Make A Deal With the Devil

South African outfit Ruff Majik are currently unknown here in Australia – but that is definitely more to do with geographical location than talent.

Delivering a quirky and upbeat sound that could be loosely pigeonholed as stoner rock but with far more complex layers, Ruff Majik are the type of band that you get the feeling would leave no stone unturned in their quest to diversify their music.

With a handful of albums already stamping their mark in and around their home country, Ruff Majik are set to take on an international market with their upcoming release The Devils Cattle, a collection of 13 songs that showcase not only the band’s eclectic nature but also their refreshingly flippant attitude that lifts their music above the accepted parameters of most bands in this genre.

VRSTY’s Future Anything But Cloudy

Words by Kyra Jade Coombs

RNB infused post-hardcore was enough to capture my attention and take a closer look into VRSTY.

This New York band has recently signed to Spinefarm Records – with the likes of Atreyu, BFMV many more heavyweights – and are on the cusp of releasing their new EP Cloud City on December 4.

Starting off as a solo project with Joey Varela and having no real intentions of his music ever ‘taking off’, VRSTY evolved into a full band in 2015 and things have never been the same since.

LIMBS Full of Surprises

Florida post-hardcore outfit LIMBS surprised everybody over the weekend by dropping the surprise three-track EP Only the Lonely Know.

The EP is a collection of songs self-analyzing aspects of frontman Austin MCauley‘s life in a way rarely seen in the public domain. It is a cleansing and cathartic trio of songs that offers hope to the suffering and shows an almost vulnerable side to the band that is accentuated by the reality of its subject matter.

NEW CLEAR VISION Announce Farewell

Sunshine Coast band New Clear Vision have sadly officially announced their separation, with a farewell show planned on the Gold Coast this weekend.

Since 2015 the band have played with and alongside some of the best local, national and international band’s in the business, winning over a loyal legion of fans and forging many friendships along the way.

Frontman Brad Bromfield is no stranger to the music scene, having previously been with Messiam for a number of years, but this larger than life character has also been through good times and bad for the love of his art and sat down with HEAVY earlier this week for a chat about the break-up and plans for the future.

LIKE MOTHS TO FLAMES Strike Gold

Like Moths To Flames upcoming album, No Eternity in Gold is a record that showcases the band like never before.

Their trademark sound is still there, but through four previous albums the band has honed their sound and redefined it in a way that only now finally captures the true essence of the band musically.

Each track on the album is intensely personal to frontman Chris Roetter, separately dealing with eleven issues that plague the frontman every day.

MOLLY & THE KRELLS Get Straight To The Point

After initially releasing the track “What Went Wrong” in February of this year, Molly & The Krells have now released it again, this time with a brilliant film clip that adds depth and extra layers to the story. Bass player and vocalist Blake Cateris sat down with HEAVY to delve further into the song.

“I went through about seven or eight drafts of this song before I took it to the band,” he said.
