Track Premiere: Charger – “Summon the Demon”

This new track, “Summon the Demon,” from Bay Area speed metal trio Charger delivers exactly what it promises: a steamrolling Motörhead-inspired rhythm section; caustic, UK82-style guitars; and a shrieking vocalist come chorus time. What may be a little unexpected is the involvement of Rancid and ex-Operation Ivy bassist/vocalist Matt Freeman, who fronts the three-piece alongside drummer Jason Willer (UK Subs, Nik Turner’s Hawkwind) and guitarist Andrew McGee.

Formed in 2018, Charger have previously released an EP and a series of flexi singles through Pirates Press over the years. Their latest release, Warhorse, from which “Summon the Demon” is drawn, is also set for release via Pirates Press on March 2. The band’s 11-song, full-length debut will be issued on cassette, colored vinyl and CD and can be pre-ordered here.

Here’s what the band had to say about “Summon the Demon”:

“We had a lot of fun writing this song, but we had one last idea we knew would take this song exactly where it needed to go. Luckily we knew just the guy to do it: our good buddy Jake Nunn, vocalist from Hell Fire [who sings on the chorus], and we were honored he agreed to help out. He absolutely killed it the day he came down to the studio and it was hands down one of the highlights of recording the Warhorse album.”
